On a typical day, what do you usually do after office? Maybe you spend time with your friends, go for a movie or rot in heavy city traffic on your way home. But for them, after office means tuning up the guitars and plugging in the gears for jamming.
Post Office Society, the title itself describes the band which was formed when some musicians from the capital’s Uttara Sector-1 area regularly started gathering after their office hours for jamming sessions. The jamming and practice sessions were joined my musicians including Labu Rahman, Bart Nandit Areng, Karib Ahmed, Syed Sazzad Ali, Ahsanul Hadi, Abid Hasan Noor Setu, Nayeem Morshed, Zahid Ahmed, Tarek Bin Taher and many more. Since Post Office Society’s formation in 2006, many have come and gone but the remaining kept gathering every evening after their daily corporate grind to indulge into the magic of music. Though it all started with casual jamming sessions, over the years the band has composed over 25 songs of which only one has been released so far.
In 2011, Post Office Society made its debut at a concert in BUET. It has been over two decades of the band’s formation. Now, it’s a routine work for members of Post Office Society to gather after office and play together. But for the first time, after office, members will gather for Lalchey Bikel Belay, the band’s first solo concert, at Banani’s Jatra Birati on July 11. Through a continuous performance, fans and audience of Post Office Society will get to experience 16-17 songs at this gig.

According to the band manager Sabit Shahriar, it is a personal initiative by the band for its fans who regret not being able to experience the band due to its fewer public appearances. He said, “Those who have had the opportunity to see us up close, constantly express their regret – why we don’t perform regularly, and why we don’t further develop and release the songs we have. This initiative at Jatra Biriti is an attempt to somewhat alleviate such regrets.”
Current members of Post Office Society include Abid Hasan Noor Setu on vocals, Nayeem Morshed and Anwar Shafiq on rhythm guitar, Bakhtiar Hossain on lead guitar and backing vocals, Maroof Anwar on keys, Mohammad Danesh on bass guitar, and Shomo on drums.
